About the Office of Community Health Work

Established in July 2019, the mission of the Office of Community Health Work is to take the “complex” out of “complex care” by supporting programs that improve access, foster self-sufficiency, and promote healing for all. The office offers multiple programs to communities across central and southern Illinois, all rooted in motivational interviewing, harm reduction, and trauma-informed care to reduce isolation and build trust with residents. The SIU Family Medicine Residency Program, Carbondale offers its residents an unopposed (6-6-6), Osteopathicaly Recognized residency staffed by full-time medical faculty at the SIU Center for Family Medicine Clinic.
