Physiology Developmental Biology Research

The Division of Molecular and Integrative Physiology includes basic research in developmental biology ranging from the early uterine mechanisms necessary for implantation and growth of the embryo to the complex molecular programming of cells in the development of organ systems. Physiology faculty investigate molecular, genetic, cellular and integrative aspects of the development of the central nervous system, stereocilia of the inner hair cells of the ear, pituitary gland, placenta as well as male and female reproductive tracts. Faculty doing Developmental Biology Research: Brent Bany, Ph.D

Physiology Endocrine Research

The Division of Molecular and Integrative Physiology includes basic research in the area of endocrinology including elements of neuroendocrinology, molecular and developmental biology as well as reproductive and metabolic physiology. The endocrine system has evolved to integrate the function of cells in different parts of the body. This cell-to-cell communication is essential for numerous physiological processes. Physiology faculty investigate how hormonal cues coordinate development, reproduction, neuronal function and metabolism. Faculty doing Endocrine Research: Lydia Arbogast, Ph.D. Buffy

Physiology Neuroscience Research

The Division of Molecular and Integrative Physiology includes basic research in the area of neuroscience ranging from behavioral to molecular to genetic aspects. The nervous system allows an organism to sense and interact with its environment. Amongst the many factors that underlie nervous system function is the capacity of neurons to integrate information from many other neurons, to be excitable, and to modify their function based on experience. Physiology investigators utilize cutting-edge, multidisciplinary approaches to understand how sensory organs, neuronal excitability and

Physiology Reproductive Biology Research

The Division of Molecular and Integrative Physiology includes basic research in the area of reproductive biology and focuses on the entire reproductive axis. Physiology faculty investigate fundamental issues of male and female fertility at the molecular and cellular levels and using whole animal approaches. Research interests include development of the brain, pituitary gland, genitalia, gonads, placenta and reproductive tract. Studies extend to neural and hormonal control of reproductive function, environmental influences on reproduction and the establishment and maintenance of pregnancy
