After winning its third consecutive Illinois Academy of Physician Assistants State Medical Challenge Bowl in April, on May 17, the SIU Physician Assistant Program Medical Challenge Bowl team won the national championship held at the American Academy of Physician Assistants conference in Las Vegas. Pediatric hospitalist Haneme Idrizi, MD, associate professor of pediatrics at SIU Medicine, was awarded the Ray E. Helfer Award, which recognizes creative, scholarly work in pediatric education. A White Coat ceremony held on Saturday, July 31, celebrated the 37 men and women who had just completed the Physician Assistant Program at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale. A gathering of family and friends at the SIU Student Center watched as members of the Class of 2021 received long white coats in recognition of their new degrees.
