CARBONDALE, ILLINOIS, — Seventy-five medical students began their medical training last week at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale. SIU Medicine’s charter class of rural physicians ready for residency, greener pastures

The Lincoln Scholars Program at SIU School of Medicine graduated its charter class of medical students on May 18. The program was initiated in 2019 to create a pipeline to train physicians with a focus on rural medical care. Learn more about the first class.

SIU Medicine's statement on Supreme Court Affirmative Action ruling

The U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling Thursday that struck down college affirmative action programs. The Court issued rulings in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard and Students for Fair Admissions v. University of North Carolina, twin cases that sought the prohibition of limited consideration of an applicant’s race or ethnic background in the higher education admissions process. In the decision, the court ruled that both programs violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the Constitution. SIU Office of Tech Transfer receives national ranking

A national organization promoting economic opportunity has ranked Southern Illinois University Carbondale among its top 100 in the country for technology transfer. The Milken Institute’s Center for Jobs and Human Capital placed SIU at No. 76 out of 225 in the nation in its Technology Transfer and Commercialization Index of Universities & Research Institutions ranking, which it released in April.
