SIU Physician Assistant Program Celebrates Preceptors of the Year

The Physician Assistant Program Class of 2017 at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Carbondale has selected eight central and southern Illinois physicians, physician assistants and nurse practitioners to receive the “Preceptor of the Year” award. “Preceptors are the heart of a medical education program,” said Rhonda Pulver, assistant professor and coordinator of the Physician Assistant Program at the School of Medicine. “They’re not paid; they volunteer their time to be a mentor. SIU Physician Assistant Program Graduates 34

New students receive white coats; awards given The Physician Assistant Program at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine graduated 34 physician assistants during a ceremony on August 1, 2015, at SIU Carbondale. The class earned a Masters of Science in Physician Assistant Studies (MSPA). At the ceremony, the graduating class received their long white coats and certificates signifying completion of the 26-month program. SIU Physician Assistant program to offer doctorate in 2021

SIU School of Medicine’s Physician Assistant Program will be launching a new Doctor of Medical Science degree program in summer semester 2021, one of only a handful of U.S. medical schools offering the doctorate training. SIU physician prepared for an Olympic task

David Jeong, MD, has achieved an impressive goal this month: He’s made it to the Olympics. The director of sports medicine and geriatric musculoskeletal medicine at SIU Center for Family and Community Medicine in Springfield is directing medical teams at the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea. His staff will provide care and treatment for the world-class athletes at the Sliding Center, home to the luge, skeleton and bobsled competitions. The Olympic Games will be held February 9 - 25. Southern Illinois University School of Medicine’s Department of Population Science and Policy (PSP) received the American Public Health Association 2019 Health Equity Award at the APHA’s annual meeting in San Diego this month. The award honors an individual or organization that has worked to eliminate health disparities and improve health equity through advances in health education or communication.
