Teaching Rounds

Teaching rounds will occur daily on the clinical services and procedural labs (echo, nuclear, cath). Rounds on the clinical services typically will take place in the morning. The procedural areas will also round daily to review all the diagnostic testing (cath, echo, nuclear). These services may round more than once a day depending on the clinical volume.

Technical standards

A variety of skills and abilities are required to function as a medical provider. Students must be able to meet these standards to be admitted to, continue in, and graduate from the SIU School of Medicine Physician Assistant (PA) Program.The student must be able to complete tasks in all areas below in a reasonable amount of time. A candidate for the PA Profession must have the following abilities and skills: observation, communication, motor, intellectural-conceptual, integrative, and quantitative and behavioral social attributes. TED Talks have changed the way people present their ideas. The three-part structure, clarity of purpose and 18 minutes or less requirement has inspired presenters and listeners to think differently about a good talk. Hundreds of articles and a handful of decent books discuss the science and effectiveness of TED Talks. I have studied quite a few, and married some of those principles with my own experiences as a public speaker, consultant and student of communications. I will narrow my observations to the importance of three general public-speaking tools: ideation, connection and narration

Tee up to help community kids June 5

Children throughout Springfield are receiving extended medical care, and once they return home, their families often need extra help to pay for items or services insurance does not cover. SIU Medicine is inviting all golfers to help these children facing life-altering diseases through the On Par for Pediatrics charity golf outing.
