Urology Application Process

The SIU urology division participates in the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) where application materials are transmitted from medical schools and the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) to selected programs via the internet. Applicants are responsible for accessing the proper equipment to complete the application process and for submitting all required documents. Complete applicant files are reviewed by the Urology Residency Program Director and urology division chief to determine the 40 to 50 individuals who will be invited to interview with SIU Urology

Urology Residency Curriculum

The urology residency training program is a 5-year training program designed to provide an educational experience in the prevention of urologic disease and diagnosis, medical and surgical treatment of urologic abnormalities, along with reconstruction in neoplastic disease and correction of deformities and injuries. The clinical experience provides exposure to all genitourinary diseases and conditions encountered in urologic practice. Urology Residency Overview

The Urology Residency Program at SIU School of Medicine complies with the current and upcoming curriculum as set forth by the Residency Review Committee in Urology and the ACGME. All five years of training are now incorporated into the urology residency. This five-year program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education. At the completion of the residency program, residents are eligible for certification by the American Board of Urology. The first year of training (URO1) includes 4 months of urology, 6 months of general surgery and 2 months of approved

USMLE program plans change in Step 1 score reporting

Excerpted from the United State Medical Licensing Examination The USMLE program will change score reporting for Step 1 from a three-digit numeric score to reporting only a pass/fail outcome. A numeric score will continue to be reported for Step 2 Clinical Knowledge (CK) and Step 3. Step 2 Clinical Skills (CS) will continue to be reported as Pass/Fail. This policy will take effect no earlier than January 1, 2022, with further details to follow later this year. Learn more about this change on the USMLE website.

This document applies to SIU staff, faculty, trainees, agents, officers, directors, interns, volunteers, contractors, and any other individual or entity engaged in providing teaching, research and health care items and services at SIU.
