About Alumni Relations


Since 1978, the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine has educated and trained 3,233 SIU School of Medicine Alumni, has 2,306 graduates in practice with 901 (39%) practicing in 66 Illinois counties. SIU School of Medicine also includes 2,939 resident and fellow alumni. Every SOM graduate is a member of the SOM Alumni Society. There are no dues.

The Office of Alumni Relations and the Alumni Society seek to provide meaningful ways to connect and engage its alumni and current students with their alma mater and with each other. How alumni can get involved:

  • Attend a reunion or other alumni-sponsored event
  • Mentor or teach students
  • Host a student traveling for a residency interview
  • Host a gathering or student dinner
  • Become an Alumni Society Board of Governors member
  • Become a reunion committee member or Class Agent
  • Support the Student Resource Fund financially
  • Be an Ambassador
  • Connect with fellow alumni
