Program Letters of Agreement (PLA)

PLA GUIDELINES 1. There must be a program letter of agreement (PLA) between the program and each participating site (outside of the Sponsoring Institution) that governs the relationship between the program and the site providing a required assignment. (Core) (I.B.2.) A participating site is defined as an organization providing educational experiences or educational rotations for residents. There must be a PLA for any away rotation, whether it is required or elective. NAS Internal Review Protocol

Under the direction of the GMEC, the Office of Graduate Medical Education (OGME) schedules Internal Reviews of residency programs and subspecialty programs to occur as directed by the GMEC Program Oversight and Review Policy. OGME recommends a Chairperson and at least two other committee members (1 resident and/or 1 faculty) to serve on the Internal Review committee, in addition to an OGME staff person. GME Support in Event of Disaster or Interruption of Patient Care

For these purposes a disaster is defined as an event or set of events causing significant alteration to the residency or fellowship experience at one or more SIU training programs. Because of the devastating impact of natural or manmade disaster on information systems, programs are strongly encouraged to keep backup copies (either written or electronic) of important program and residency files at a different physical location than their residency office.
