SIU Medicine COVID-19 Testing Locations in March

SIU Medicine will continue COVID-19 testing for the Springfield community in March. On Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, the testing operation will be hosted by Abundant Faith Christian Center located at 2525 Taylor Ave. Mondays: 9 – 11 a.m. and 1 – 4 p.m. Tuesdays: 9 – 11 a.m. and 1 – 4 p.m. Thursdays: 9 – 11 a.m. and 1 – 4 p.m. Additional testing is conducted on Fridays, hosted by other area congregations. SIU Medicine, Danenberger Family Vineyards Mark Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day with Concert, Q&A with Plastic Surgeons

The Division of Plastic Surgery at Southern Illinois University Medicine has teamed up with Danenberger Family Vineyards to host “Wine Rocks & Breast Reconstruction,” 4-9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, in support of The Plastic Surgery Foundation’s sixth annual Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day observance. BRA Day is designed to raise awareness regarding post-mastectomy breast cancer care. The event includes live music, a question and answer session with plastic surgeons from SIU Medicine and door prizes. SIU Medicine Earns National Award for Patient Access, Referral Management

In May 2018, the Patient Access Collaborative, formerly the Patient Access Symposium, recognized SIU Medicine with the award "Best Practice in Patient Access for Referral Management." The Patient Access Collaborative, founded in 2011, provides a forum for large academic health systems to discuss solutions, disseminate ideas and collaborate as a collective group to improve patient access in a complex ambulatory enterprise. SIU Medicine employee, breast cancer survivor to model at New York Fashion Week

Community activist, local school board member and SIU Medicine deputy director Erica Austin will model at this year's New York Fashion Week in September at the (R)Evolution fashion show. Austin, who recently underwent breast cancer surgery, will walk the runway for Dana Donofree, a breast cancer survivor and the designer and founder of AnaOno, an international intimates clothing line for women with breast cancer.

SIU Medicine ending COVID-19 testing March 30, 2021

SIU School of Medicine will be closing its COVID-19 testing operation on March 30 as planned with the Sangamon County Department of Public Health (SCDPH). During the past 8 months, SIU conducted more than 38,000 tests of area residents, resulting in 35,093 negative findings and 2,359 positives, with a monthly average of 200 tests for children under 18. We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with the County to provide this critical community service in a time of crisis. SIU Medicine enrolling patients for clinical study to treat depression

SPRINGFIELD, ILLINOIS, October 18, 2021 – Clinical depression affects more than 17 million people in the United States. Among those afflicted, 1 out of 3 has what is called treatment-resistant depression (TRD). Despite medical help, they have been unable to find adequate relief from their symptoms. SIU Medicine enrolling patients for Parkinson’s disease clinical trial

SIU Medicine is recruiting patients with early-stage Parkinson’s disease to study a new drug that could become a potential treatment for the debilitating condition. Parkinson's disease (PD) is a nervous system disorder that affects movement, causing slowness, stiffness, tremors and walking and balance problems. Over time, patients diagnosed with PD experience a worsening of their symptoms. In the early stages of Parkinson’s disease, symptoms may be mild and the diagnosis can be easily missed. Patients in central and southern Illinois will now have expanded access to expert kidney care, as SIU Medicine expands its nephrology specialty services. SIU Medicine Nephrology will provide high-quality kidney care, supported by the strength of academic medicine and a team-based approach to treatment. SIU Medicine Nephrology will offer comprehensive kidney health services, including management of chronic kidney disease, oversight of dialysis treatments and referrals for transplant care.
