MBBS Graduate Program application and admissions

The minimum requirement for admission to the MBBS Graduate Program is an undergraduate degree in a biological, chemical or physical science, For thesis MS and PhD applicants a cumulative GPA of 2.7 during the BA/BS degree and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 in any graduate coursework is required. MBBS Graduate Program financial assistance

The MBBS Graduate Program offers financial assistance to graduate students through assistantships that include a stipend and a tuition waiver. Research assistantships are the most common, but some Concentrations offer Teaching assistantships. SIU also awards Fellowships on a competitive basis. Financial assistance depends on availability, the student’s qualifications and their academic status. Science has increasingly become interdisciplinary and thus training that promotes knowledge across fields will prepare students for a successful future. All MBBS graduate students in the thesis MS and PhD degree pathways will begin their training by taking the following core courses. Springfield Resources Medical insurance Springfield medical students are assessed two fees for healthcare: Primary Care Fee – covering basic primary care visits, and basic laboratory studies and simple x-rays ordered by the primary care physician. Student Medical Extended Care Fee - Providing the SIU Student Health Insurance Plan that covers expenses such as emergency rooms, hospitalization, surgery, ambulance, specialty care, and advanced laboratory studies and imaging. McDowell Named First Recipient of New Endowed Chair for Emergency Medicine Named after Dr. David Griffen

Dr. Christopher McDowell, an emergency medicine physician with SIU Medicine and the medical director of the Memorial Center for Learning and Innovation, will be the first recipient of a newly created endowment for emergency medicine. Memorial Medical Center is contributing $1 million to launch the David L. Griffen, MD, PhD, Endowed Chair of Emergency Medicine.
