Overview Mimi Cameo Covert grew up in southern California, near Rancho Los Amigo Hospital. She received a degree in physical therapy in 1978 from the University of California – Santa Barbara. Through Mind Matters, the quarterly newsletter of the Dale and Deborah Smith Center for Alzheimer's Research and Treatment at SIU Medicine, we want to highlight the impactful stories and transformative work being done. Exercise, create, and explore using all five senses. Minds in Motion is an evidence-based program, designed for persons experiencing memory loss or dementia. The goal is to improve or maintain mental, physical and emotional well-being, using all five senses in a variety of activities. Sessions are held twice a month and each session has a different theme to help keep the program fresh. Activities include: Brain games Creative activities Art Music Socialization Chair yoga The Minds in Motion programs are between three and four hours, and allow respite for caregivers if they choose. The Smith Alzheimer's Center is excited to bring its Minds in Motion program, designed for persons experiencing memory loss or dementia and their caregivers, to the NAACP. From brain games, music, exercise, art and more, the goal of Minds in Motion is to have activities using all five senses to improve or maintain mental, physical, and emotional well-being.
