Neuroboard Top 10 Hits: Common Neurological Issues for Non-Neurologists

Southern Illinois University School of Medicine's Neurology Symposium This symposium will address the recognition and management of common neurological problems and emergencies for primary care providers, hospitalists, Emergency Medicine providers and other non-neurologists. Participants will also learn how to conduct a neurological examination, determine the appropriate investigations to order, understand the significance of abnormal MRI findings and identify the need for referral to a neurologist.

Neurology Clerkship goals

To learn the principles and skills underlying the recognition and management of neurologic diseases that a general practitioner is most likely to encounter in practice, with special emphasis on the neurologic emergencies. Objectives: Demonstrate competence in presenting and documenting a neurologic history and physical examination. Demonstrate competence in conducting a complete neurological examination. Recognize neurological symptoms and localize lesions. Demonstrate and apply knowledge of neurosciences to the understanding of the mechanisms of neurological disease and their treatment
