Please be advised that students accepted into the SIU School of Medicine Physician Assistant Program incur higher tuition rates than other SIU graduate students. Tuition rates are established by the SIU Board of Trustees and are competitive with other physician assistant programs. Students accepted into the PA Program will have expenses in addition to the university’s tuition and fees. Program Letters of Agreement (PLA)

PLA GUIDELINES 1. There must be a program letter of agreement (PLA) between the program and each participating site (outside of the Sponsoring Institution) that governs the relationship between the program and the site providing a required assignment. (Core) (I.B.2.) A participating site is defined as an organization providing educational experiences or educational rotations for residents. There must be a PLA for any away rotation, whether it is required or elective. Program Location

MEDPREP is part of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, and is housed on the SIU campus located in Carbondale, Illinois. Carbondale is a town of 25,000 located in the southern tip of the state, near the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. At the edge of the Shawnee National Forest, Carbondale has many nearby outdoor recreation areas, including Giant City State Park, Little Grand Canyon and Garden of the Gods. Program Oversight and Review Policy

Scope This policy was developed for SIU Medicine. SIU Medicine collectively applies to the SIU School of Medicine (SIU SOM), including the Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), and SIU HealthCare (SIU HC). These entities are collectively referred to as SIU in this document. This document applies to SIU staff, faculty, trainees, agents, officers, directors, interns, volunteers, contractors, and any other individual or entity engaged in providing teaching, research and health care items and services at SIU. These individuals are collectively referred to as SIU personnel in this document

Program overview

Rotation description Fellows will be engaged in inpatient or outpatient rotations during their first year of training. Their time will be split evenly between the two services. During their outpatient time, they will maintain a fellow’s clinic so that they acquire and follow a panel of patients during their three years of training. During the second year of training, fellows will have several months of sub-specialty time to cover important topics such as Gynecologic Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Hematopathology, Blood Bank, and outpatient service.
