Dr. Johnson is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in the pediatric pulmonology division. He earned his medical degree at St. Louis University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, and completed a pediatric residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio, Texas. He completed a pediatric pulmonology fellowship in the Division of Allergy and Pulmonary Medicine at St. Louis Children's Hospital in St. Louis. Before joining SIU, Dr. Johnson worked at Barnes-Jewish, St. Peter’s Hospital in Saint Peter’s, Missouri, in private practice in Highland, Illinois, and at SSM Glennon Care Pediatrics in Belleville, Illinois. Board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics, Dr. Johnson is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American College of Sports Medicine and the North American Society of Pediatric Exercise Medicine.
Dr. Shafi is an Associate Professor of Clinical Pediatrics at SIU School of Medicine in the pediatric pulmonology division. He attended medical school at Sind Medical College, University of Karachi in in Karachi, Pakistan, and completed a pediatric residency at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Centre in Bronx, New York, initially a part of New York Medical College and later affiliated with Cornell University. He completed a fellowship in pediatric pulmonology at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, New York. Prior to joining SIU, Dr. Shafi led the Department of Pediatrics in Dawadami, Riyadh SA and in SIUT, which is a tertiary care center in Karachi, Pakistan. Since joining SIU, Dr. Shafi established a Sleep Study Program for SIU and facilitates pediatric sleep studies for HSHS St. John's Children's Hospital and Memorial Medical Center.

Clinical and Research Interests
We see patients with asthma, pulmonary complications of prematurity, cystic fibrosis, wheezing, shortness of breath, sleep problems and other pulmonary diseases. We are a Cystic Fibrosis Foundation accredited affiliate care center. We provide pulmonary diagnostic testing such as Pulmonary Function Testing, Bronchoscopy, Interpretation of Sleep Studies and Exercise Testing.
We offer a postgraduate resident rotation and 3rd/4th year medical student rotation. During rotations residents/medical students will attend clinic, provide consultations and participate in the care of children with respiratory disorders. Residents/medical students also participate in pulmonary diagnostic testing such as Pulmonary Function Testing, Bronchoscopy, Interpretation of Sleep Studies and Exercise Testing.
