The Division of Plastic Surgery at Southern Illinois University Medicine has teamed up with Danenberger Family Vineyards to host “Wine Rocks & Breast Reconstruction,” 4-9 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 6, in support of The Plastic Surgery Foundation’s sixth annual Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day observance. In May 2018, the Patient Access Collaborative, formerly the Patient Access Symposium, recognized SIU Medicine with the award "Best Practice in Patient Access for Referral Management." The Patient Access Collaborative, founded in 2011, provides a forum for large academic health systems to discuss solutions, disseminate ideas and collaborate as a collective group to improve patient access in a complex ambulatory enterprise. Community activist, local school board member and SIU Medicine deputy director Erica Austin will model at this year's New York Fashion Week in September at the (R)Evolution fashion show. Austin, who recently underwent breast cancer surgery, will walk the runway for Dana Donofree, a breast cancer survivor and the designer and founder of AnaOno, an international intimates clothing line for women with breast cancer.
