Resident Resource Fund Award Process Guidelines

Applicants Any resident or fellow (Springfield and affiliate programs) can apply for a Resident Resource Fund (RRF) Award (hereinafter referred to as Award). The applicant must have a minimum of 6 months training remaining at the time they apply. Applicants can only receive one award per academic year for all categories (i.e. multiple requests under different categories will not be accepted). Resident Rotations

Residents will rotate through two clinical services (SIU service and Springfield Clinic service) in 2-month (PGY-2&3/Uro-1&2 residents) and 3-month (PGY-4/Uro-3) intervals. The SIU service is responsible for participating in cases/clinics and managing the patients of the SIU attending urologist. One day per week, the adjunct faculty are also covered by the SIU service. The areas of urology encompassed by the SIU service include: General Urology Minimally-Invasive Surgery (Conventional Laparoscopy, Robotic-assisted Laparoscopy and Endourology) Oncology Andrology/Male Infertility/Male

Resident Scholarly Activity

The SIU Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery residency program prides itself on our commitment to engaging residents in high-quality, meaningful, and fruitful research activities. Our residents are allotted three months of research time during their training. This is typically divided such that each resident receives one research month during PGY2 and two consecutive months during PGY3. During their research experience, residents are required to identify one or multiple mentors in advance and meet with them weekly to ensure appropriate mentorship. However, medicine is a high-risk profession for development of stress, burnout and depression, especially for residents. A majority of residents show symptoms of burnout and about 30% of residents experience some level of depression during residency. Junior residents are at the highest risk.
